TGA Consulting Engineers LLP  were employed by Alfred McAlpine Special Projects to design the mechanical and electrical services associated with the Conwy Schools PFI project for Conwy County Council. The project involved the brown field development for the new John Bright School in Llandudno as well as the refurbishment and extension of the existing Aberconwy school in Conwy and Dyffryn Conwy School in Llanrwst. 

The overall value of these projects was approximately £43 million, with the Mechanical and Electrical Services comprising approximately £15 Million.   

TGA and First Projects were first introduced to this project soon after financial close, with a very short mobilisation period. 

Working with Alfred MaAlpine Special Projects and First Projects, TGA Consulting Engineers LLP were required to develop a fast track approach to the design, carefully prioritising the designs for new build and refurbishment areas to meet the programme.

In addition, the existing infrastructure within the two buildings being refurbished were carefully examined, extended and reinforced to cope with the phasing and decanting required to maintain the sites in full operation throughout the duration of the construction works.

Dedicated teams were formed for each school, with responsibility for liaison and delivery handed to Associates within TGA.  The projects were successful, with all three schools achieving practical completion prior to the 2004 academic year.
