TGA Consulting Engineers LLP   were employed by Northgate and Prudhoe NHS Trust (now part of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust) and Project Co (a Special Project Vehicle to design, build, operate and maintain a new and Neurorehabilitation and Neuropsychiatry unit at the Walkergate Hospital site in Newcastle upon Tyne), to undertake Independent Tester duties in accordance with the mechanical and electrical services associated with the building.

As with previous Independent Tester commissions, Summers Inman and TGA Consulting Engineers adopted a proactive approach from the start of their appointments, with the aim of keeping all interested parties fully informed of comments and site progress. 

During early meetings with the Trust and the SPV, (along with their consultants and sub-contractors), Summers Inman and TGA Consulting Engineers developed procedures for monthly monitoring and communication confirming site progress.

As with previous projects, comprehensive review sheets were used at Practical Completion to verify compliance with the output specification, British Standards, Building Regulations and HTMS, as well as regular checks on quality of installations.

This approach assisted the contractor and SPV to hand over a compliant building on programme.
