TGA Consulting Engineers LLP were employed by Thorn Lighting and their sister company Tridonic Atco to assist Summer Inman with the project management and quality monitoring of the mechanical and electrical services for their new factory development.

The £32 million factory development, providing new purpose-built premises for Thorn and Tridonic is the largest investment in the manufacture of lighting equipment in the UK for almost 70 years.  The 40,000m² building houses approximately 500 employees, producing over 4.7 million fittings per year.

The site also includes the facility to demonstrate internal and external lighting, with the latter via CCTV cameras located around the external areas of the building.    

Services provided by TGA Consulting Engineers throughout the duration of this project included :-  

       "Due diligence"  reviews of the contractor's proposals and subsequent revised drawings

       Attending liaison meetings with the client and design team

       Clerk of Works site inspection duties throughout the construction stages and witness testing.

The building was named Factory of the Year for 2009 at the Best Factory Awards (BFA), and well as the Best Electronics & Electrical Plant and Best People Management awards and was highly commended for the Innovation award.
